Our Q&A with Kevin Hayes

What would be your plan for ensuring the future security and strength of Medicare?

I would like to see Medicare privatized and government get our of our medical care. This cannot happen over night but it’s something I would like to look into. In the meantime, we must not steal people’s money from the program that they paid into. I will vote against anything that moves money out of this to pay for something else.

What would you support in Congress as a plan to help control health care and pharmaceutical costs?

I don’t think this is the Constitutional role of government. When government gets out of the way, prices will come down.

Where do you stand on time limits for Medicaid and work requirements for the program?

Government should not be involved in this.

How do you think Congress can improve access to child care?

This is something that should be handled at the state and local government.

Where do you stand on federal abortion limits? What gestational limits, if any, would you set?

I believe abortion is murder and I would treat it as such.

What can the federal government do to support rural hospitals?

Get out of the way and stop overregulating.

Where do you stand on restoring funding for the Affordable Connectivity Program?

I am opposed to this as it’s not the role of government.

PFAS contamination is a country-wide issue; How do you balance public safety and business interests with this issue?

I am in favor of the citizens having safe and healthy food. Business should be exposed for poisoning our citizens.

Do you think the federal government is ready for the next pandemic? Why or why not?

Maybe. This is a tricky question. The government should not dictate to people where they can go or what they have to wear (mask, etc.) or what they inject into their bodies. The government should be making people aware of public health issues so that people can make their own decisions.

What steps would you take to improve access to mental health services and to address the opioid overdose crisis?

This should mostly be handled at the state level.

Do you think the federal government should enforce stricter requirements for nonprofit hospitals to justify their tax exemptions? Why or why not?

Yes. If you’re a non-profit you should be able to prove it.
