North Carolina Health News is an independent, not-for-profit, statewide news organization dedicated to covering health care in North Carolina employing the highest journalistic standards of fairness, accuracy and extensive research.
We were founded in response to the decrease in health reporters around the state. We were founded because we believe that to make the best decisions about their health care and about the state’s health care system, the citizens of North Carolina need the best information possible.
NCHN seeks to become the premiere source for health reporting in North Carolina.
Diversity is imperative to covering our community accurately
Historically much of journalism has too heavily reflected the priorities of the powerful. But without a wide array of voices we cannot reflect the community as a whole. We recognize that including a diversity of visions and voices helps NC Health News develop broader ideas. Our goal is to allow readers to recognize themselves in the stories we tell, illuminate nuanced and complicated narratives, and create an environment in which many ideas can flourish.
We see diversity as a moral and business imperative in order to reflect the society that we report on and live in. We are committed to cultivating a diverse staff, sources, and partnerships to represent the richness of lived experiences in our state.
