Mary O’Donnell holds a photo of her son Sean, who died in 2017 after passing out while drinking with friends at a quarry near his Chatham County home. Frightened, his friends left him behind. He later fell into the quarry and drowned. O’Donnell has become an advocate for strengthening the state’s Good Samaritan laws that make it easier to call for help in the case of an overdose.
