budget vote recess

Shows a group of people milling around a formal chamber and snacking on popcorn. They're lawmakers waiting to vote on the state budget.

Rep. John Torbett (R-Stanley) and other members of the state House of Representatives snacked on popcorn, checked their phones and chatted during break in legislating while waiting for a post-midnight vote on the state budget Thursday evening. In order to complete voting on a state budget two votes need to take place on different days, so lawmakers often wait until 12:01 am to start a new voting session and complete their work.
