A large catfish is being held up for a photograph. The hook and line used to catch the fish is still attached to its mouth. The person holding the fish is only visible from his torso down.

An angler holds up a catfish caught in the Cape Fear River near Lock and Dam #1. Catfish are one of the species on the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services freshwater fish advisory, a list of fish contaminated with PFAS. Subsistence fishers rely on fish caught from the river to help feed themselves and their families.
