Trenton residents (l to r) Gladys Meadows, Louise Bledson, Kathy Brown, Shelia Thompson and Connie Jones said when buses came to pick them up to take them to shelters last week, they were glad for the opportunity to get out of the way of rising water in their Jones County town. They boarded a bus that went to a regular storm shelter in Fayetteville. Another bus left their town, carrying people who need medical care to a specialized shelter in Goldsboro. The five had just arrived in Chapel Hill at the “megashelter” at the Friday Center on the UNC Chapel Hill campus after spending the weekend at the other shelter in Fayetteville, which is now threatened by flooding.
