The Alcoa Aluminum smelting facility is in the upper left of the photograph. Badin Lake features buoys in a section where swimming is not allowed because it is near an outfall discharging hazardous material from the factory, which shut down in 2007, into the lake and can be dangerous to swimmers at the source point. The lake also has a fish consumption advisory posted recommending that people eat no more than “one meal a week of catfish and largemouth bass” from the lake.
